A Change Is As Good As A Rest is the twentieth episode of Underground Ernie. It originally aired on June 30th 2006.

Plot

Jubilee is very excited, he and Brooklyn are swapping lines. Brooklyn's coming to England, while Jubilee is leaving for New York. Bakerloo is worried, as they do things differently over there, but Jubilee is confident that he's going to have fun.

After the rest of the crew bid Jubilee an emotional farewell, Brooklyn arrives at International Underground. Seeing that everybody's sad about Jubilee, Brooklyn suggests putting some music on to lighten the mood. While Mr Rails sorts out some music, Circle and the twins take Brooklyn to the sheds.

At the sheds, Brooklyn tells the other trains how excited he is to try new things. Circle tells Brooklyn how bored she is of going round the same line everyday, giving Brooklyn an idea - why don't all the trains swap jobs? Victoria tells the trains to ask Ernie in the morning.

The next morning, Victoria puts the idea forward to Ernie, who seems hesitant at first, but is then convinced, as long as the trains all know what they're doing. Victoria swaps with Hammersmith and City, while Circle swaps with Bakerloo.

Millie makes the announcement of the switch over the tannoy, Pippa is at Circle's platform with one of her parrots, who's making so much noise, it drowns out Millie's announcement. Pippa gets on board Circle, completely unaware that she's not going to the nature reserve. At the hospital, Hammersmith and City are too busy talking to Dr Hart about the most amazing operation he's performed. Miss Relic and Chloe's grandmother are incredibly annoyed at how long the twins are taking, they're missing the start of their show at the theater. Over at the school, Victoria isn't coping with Sam and Dan, who are misbehaving. After reprimanding them for playing ball games on the platform, Sam and Dan threaten to tell Ernie about what she's said.

Pippa arrives at the library, annoyed. Circle asks if Pippa heard the announcement, and after hearing about the switch, asks Circle to take her back to International Underground immediately - but Circle has to go to Mystery Mansion and the police station first. At Sea Shell Bay, Bakerloo is growing impatient after having to wait for the busker to get on board.

Mr Rails has finally sorted out the music and puts it on at the station, drowning out the sound of everyone's voices as they complain to Millie about the confusion they're having. Millie radios Ernie, but the music is too loud that Ernie can't hear what Millie's saying, and Millie can't hear Brooklyn who's undecided about which way to go. He takes the points set to the right, and ends up going on the wrong line.

Millie goes to the control room to find the phones ringing - and Brooklyn and Bakerloo on a collision course with each other! Fortunately, the two trains stop in the nick of time, and Ernie arrives shortly afterwards to sort the matter out. He radios Millie, telling her to get all the trains to get back to their normal lines at once.

Everyone's relieved to be back on their old lines, and service resumes as normal. As the day comes to an end, Brooklyn apologises to Ernie and Millie for having such a disastrous idea, which Ernie accepts. Besides, some good has come out of the situation - Dr Hart liked the music playing at the station so he's now playing it for his patients on the wards! Brooklyn returns to New York, feeling very pleased with himself.

Jubilee returns to the sheds that night, and everyone is happy. Jubilee has had a great time in New York, having picked up the accent, and suggests swapping lines to the other trains, to which they all laugh. They've already done that, and Circle says that they're happy with things just the way they are, and everyone agrees.
